After the annexation of Austria by Nazi Germany Fey was interrogated by the Gestapo on March 15, 1938. One day later he committed suicide after having shot his 46 year old wife Malvine and his son Herbert.
During a parade in May 1933, Major Emil Fey reportedly "knocked three Nazis unconscious with his own ochsenknüttel (square-edged bludgeon)" and promoted Austrian nationalism.[1]
