Emil Fey was an Austrian officer in the Kaiserlich und königlich army, leader of the right-wing paramilitary Heimwehr, and Vice-Chancellor of Austria (German: Vizekanzler) during the period of Austrofascism under Chancellor Engelbert Dollfuss. He played a critical role in the violent suppression of the Socialist Party during the Austrian Civil War.

Personal life

After the annexation of Austria by Nazi Germany Fey was interrogated by the Gestapo on March 15, 1938. One day later he committed suicide after having shot his 46 year old wife Malvine and his son Herbert.

Career

During a parade in May 1933, Major Emil Fey reportedly "knocked three Nazis unconscious with his own ochsenknüttel (square-edged bludgeon)" and promoted Austrian nationalism.[1]
